2014... You Came and Went!

An ode to 2014...

Twenty fourteen, you came and went,
A penny earned a dollar spent.
We had some fun we had a laugh,
This ode we write in your behalf.

First month of a brand new year,
It's where the ride begins my dear.
We sold our souls to buy a car,
After Dan's truck would not go far.
Stuck dead and tired.
The truck retired.

Second month came with a little news
LJ was accepted into grad skewls.
Oh and wait, a house of two no longer be,
But one plus one will now be three.

March rolled around, we couldn't wait,
To catch a glimpse of our little fate.
A boy a boy we shall receive,
A healthy boy we have conceived.

And now we come to month number four
Adventure awaited and so much more
We packed our bags and held on tight,
Ready for our 12 hour flight.
We arrived in Europe ready to play,
But first we needed a place to stay.
Paris, Switzerland and Italy,
There was no place we'd rather be.

Four months Prego though she be,
LJ did triathlon number three.
She took a spill and scraped her knee,
But she kept on trekking, her and baby
Later in May Dan reached his goal,
Olympic triathlon, he was on a roll.

June came in without a hitch
3 year anniversary with that....

Angel!

July was a sad sad month for Dan,
He was becoming a working man.
The hours were long and pressure on
to beat the tax man, IRS... Game on!

August was a bit more fun
The next adventure was about to come.
Aspen Grove a family affair
But lo and behold Dan wasn't there.
Heavy laden with child off she went
Alaska awaited, it was heaven sent.

September came we had a plan
Triathlon three with all the fam.
But wait! Hold on, it doesn't end
Tour de Donut, my new best friend.

We saved the best for almost last,
October came oh so fast.
A little gift 7 pounds 15 ounces
This little one, our hearts he pounces.
A healthy boy and growing fast
We try to make every minute last.

Thanksgiving time we were ready to eat,
While in St. George with some unusual heat.
Oh, by the way, we forgot to mention,
we bought a house with divine intervention.

Now here we are December is here
Ready to end just one more year.
Cache County we now leave you behind
To the beginning of our marriage we will rewind.
Move in with parents for just a while
But we still have many reasons to smile.

A new baby a new house what a great year its been.
But soon enough a new year begins.

2014 we bid you adieu
2015 we welcome you.

Love you all,

The Flores Family

Baby O Baby- Maddox Ansel Flores
October 13, 2014

Well It's official. We are now parents of a beautiful baby boy. He was born on October 13, 2014 and we decided to name him Maddox Ansel Flores. At 2 a.m. on Monday I woke up to my water broken. So we headed to the hospital. We of course stopped at McDonalds since I knew I wouldn't be able to eat once I was checked in. The nurse told me that my water wasn't broken and to go home so luckily we had a doctor appointment at 9 a.m. that day. Once we got there he informed us that my water had indeed broken and we needed to get back to the hospital. We arrived around 10:30 a.m. ready to get the party started. After 15 minutes of pushing he was born with a full head of hair at  5:26 p.m. He was 19 1/2 inches long and weighed 7 lbs. 15 oz. immediately we were in love.

We decided to only stay one day at the hospital since we were excited to get back home and get our lives started. I will always remember the first night at home. We were a little nervous but excited and life has been flying by ever since.

Maddox is now almost 1 month old. Here are a few things about our sweet boy
- He could hold his head up the day he was born
- He loves getting his hair washed but hates being held with his face towards the chest
- His smiles are adorable!
- He doesn't like to be swaddled but sleeps with his arms over his head

He has already grown so much and we are soaking in every moment with him because time will fly by faster than we know it. We love being parents to this beautiful boy and can't wait for the adventures to come!

Another Triathlon: Yuba Lake!
September 6, 2014

You would think I would stop posting about the triathlons we do now that we've gotten a few behind us but each one feels like a new accomplishment. I do confess that since I am 8 months pregnant I didn't do this one but I had so much fun watching everyone do it and it made me more determined to get back out there after the baby comes. Dan has already done an Olympic and another Sprint without me so I have some catching up to do. This year the crew was Dan, Hector, The Grandmaster (mom), Jamie, Staci, Kelsi and Aubrey. They all felt so nervous since nobody had done nearly enough training but hey, they beat me sitting on my butt on the sidelines! After some flat tires and exhaustion they all finished the race. They all say they are done but I know I will talk them into another one ;)

This one was at Yuba Lake again. Last year I got second in my age group and this year I had to sit out with swollen feet and more extra pounds than I'd like to admit but it made me excited to get back to it and hopefully one day have our little guy do some triathlons with us :)

Great Job everyone!
I watched Jamie's kids while she raced and they were so proud of her!

ALASKA
August 16-24

My dad loves Alaska. He tries to go one to two times a year and this year he invited my two sisters to go with him. Last second my sister couldn't go and I was the only one available (poor me). So I quickly packed my bags and off we went!

We flew in to Juneau and then we took a small airplane to the Pybus Point Lodge. There was a huge storm, mixed with motion sickness mixed with pregnancy and I threw up on the small plane, luckily we got a bag last minute ha ha. We spent the next 5 days deep sea fishing. We caught Sea Bass, Salmon, Halibut, Quill Back, Red Snapper and a few other things as well. The fishing was amazing and we were always catching things! We would be fishing 400 ft into the water and reeling it up with a fish was not easy (especially with this belly!) So Staci and I became a great team. I do admit that one time I tipped over on the front of the boat and couldn't get up...with my big green overalls I felt like a seal, it was really funny. While we were fishing we would see porpoises, and seals everywhere!

One night we took the kayaks out and we saw a momma bear with her cub fishing for salmon (which were jumping all over the place!) There were eagles and waterfalls...I literally felt like I was in "Brother Bear". It was an amazing experience! The last day we went whale watching and stopped at a really cool light house. We even went to see a glacier which was so pretty!

Boys Climbing Trip
August 15-17, 2014

The time had come once again for Dan and his friends do go on their climbing trip. I only got to see him for about 20 minutes between Aspen Grove and when I left for Alaska because he needed to get out to where they were climbing. While I never quite know what goes on there it does seem like a time for them to all get back to their old pre-responsibility days without wives and babies and high pressured jobs. I'm so glad Dan gets to do these trips and hope he continues to do them for a long time. (Yes, I do want him to be a 40 year old man camping and climbing with his old buddies)

What an amazing View! Dan took this with his phone
Poor Daryl got hit in the head by a falling rock

Dan may be getting older but he's still rockin' it (get it ha ha) ;)

Aspen Grove
August 9-15

This year our whole family (all 36 of us!) were able to spend a week up Provo canyon at a "summer camp" called Aspen Grove. I admit, at first I wasn't sure what to expect since we haven't really done any type of camp before but it turned out to be such a blast! We were able to do paintballing, a ropes course, games, swimming, pottery, archery, shooting, rock climbing, slip n' sliding, and so much more! All the adults even floated the Provo river while all the kids were taken care of for the day. Here are a few pictures of our fun adventures.
